Founded by Elaine Du Plessis
and Leanie van der Vyver in 2018
ALIENE specializes in the design and execution of Fashion Adjacent Costumes. Their work can be defined as Afro-Futurism with a European sense of design and style. They design and create one-off looks for clients in the performing arts, film industry, and private individuals.
Elaine graduated from Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Fashion Design and has worked in the fashion industry in various capacities for the last 15 years. She has owned a fashion label, designed collections in-house for many brands, and regularly works in the film industry, in both the Wardrobe- and the Art Department. In the ALIENE team, she designs and creates their garments. Leanie graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Product Design, and has 20 years of experience in the fashion and film industry. She has worked as a Fashion Editor, Director, and Stylist. Her fashion/art creations have been exhibited in the Guggenheim, Moma, and Brooklyn Museums, to name a few. At ALIENE, Leanie designs the 3D elements, such as accessories and shoe customizations.
